Marine Megafauna Conservation Organization(MMCO) South East Educational Program

We have successfully completed this year  the 2nd Educational program in collaboration with Marine Megafauna Conservation Organization, for the people of South East Mauritius, funded by the #MOLCharitableTrust and supported by the Mauritius Scuba Diving Association #MSDA .

The certificate award ceremony for the beneficiaries took place on the 19th August 2022 with the participation of the Executive Assistant MOL Charitable Trust Mr Damien Deruisseau, President of MSDA Mr Pascal Ava and Director of Tourism Authority – Mauritius Mr Lindsay Morvan.

The program included:

  • diving training up to the 1st Level according to CMAS standards;
  • introduction to marine ecosystems and biodiversity of Mauritius;
  • Lecture at sea on sustainable and responsible eco-tourism.

The MMCO planned to train 50 residents of the South East, giving priority to sea users, students, unemployed and people in professions related to the environment and education. During the public call for applications, The MMCO received more than 230 applications for participation from all regions of Mauritius, including over 130 from residents of the south-east who were invited to take an interview and a swimming test. And the MMCO Team didn’t turn down one who came and was able to do so. As a result, 60 people were enrolled and 55 of them completed the programme.

The Educational Program received an amazing feed-back from our students and are proud that our programme not only provided participants with new knowledge and skills, but also helped bring the local community together.

Our heartfelt thanks for the support of the MOL Charitable Trust, MSDA and our partners whose tireless efforts made this programme possible to be organised by Scuba World Diving Mauritius – PADI 5 Star Dive Resort and Blue Water Diving Center

We would also like to thank Preskil Island Resort for warmly hosting the awards ceremony.

We hope to implement such programmes for other regions of Mauritius next year.
